WHALEBONE carving or sculpture is a rarity and regional to the Northwest and the Arctic. It is rarely found anywhere else. Fossil whalebone carving of fishing trawler by Alaskan Russian artist Andrei Vasseka.
Andrei Vasseka born. Dec. 1964. He majored in drawing and graphic art at Tenapol University and sculpture and stone carving at Magadan ACW, studying and working with traditional northern art forms.
In 1993 Andrei decided to make Alaska his permanent residence. He has been with Ekemo Studios in Eagle River for the past five years. Andrei prefers to work in stone and paint. Most of his work has been devoted to stone. We hope you enjoy the fine pieces he makes.
