This very detailed box is a creation of I.Kovalev from the village of Kholui. The box shows a scene from the popular Russian fairy-tale "The Snowmaiden". This beautiful papier-mache lacquer box is hand painted in egg tempera.
This is a unique and lovely one-of a kind Snowmaiden. The lid is hinged from the left side of the composition, and box rests on a flat bottom. The composition is framed with rich golden ornamentation. The work is signed with the artist's name and Kholui. Box is approx 4"x2.5"x1.25".
