Product Overview
This classic piece was created by the talented A. Petrova of Kholui. Here we see a pair of beautiful swans in the midst of migration as they fly over the island of Kizhi. They are flying south to the Black Sea, where it is warmer and where they can spend their time relaxing with the knowledge that the frigid winter is far away. Gold filigree patterns are used to frame the composition, and also to decorate the sides of the box.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The box is hinged from the top of the scene, and rests on a flat bottom. The title ("Russian North"), the word 'Kholui' and the artist's signature can be found just on the bottom of the box. Approx. size: 4"x1.5"x1.25".
