This excelent example of Fedoskino realism has been painted by a talented artist Boris Shavyrin.
This impressive traditional Fedoskino work shows a scene from the popular fairy-tale "Morozko". A young girl is sent off into the woods on a bitterly cold night by her cruel stepmother. The stepmother intends to kill the girl because she is more beautiful and hardworking than her own daughter. The end of the tale is happy; the girl is rewarded while her stepmother and stepsister are punished.
The scene painted on the box's lid depicts a girl in a winter forest. Not long ago her father has left her in the forest to die from cold by the order of his cruel wife. Later on ,when he will change his mind, and decided to return to the forest and bring his daughter home. When he found the place where he left her, he couldn't believe his eyes! His daughter was alive and dressed in rich, warm clothes...
The scene is painted in gray and white oil paints. Rich gold line frames the composition.The box's exterior imitates the color of gray marble,while the interior of the box is traditionally red.

The girl's costume are richly decorated with a gold and painted over pieces of mother-of-pearl.
