Product Overview
Our garnet butterfly earrings are a pair of winged delights with their accents of black mussel, fossilized ivory, New Zealand paua shell and hand worked sterling silver detailing.
Polished black mussel shell forms a striking contrast to the sterling silver that outlines our butterflies upper wings. Black mussel may contain hints of warmer colors, and it is these warm undertones that bring out the fiery red in the center garnet stones.
The butterflies lower abdomens are made from hand carved fossilized walrus ivory, a prized material that is some 500 to 3,000. Centuries in the earth have colored the fossilized ivory warm caramel to soft cocoa colors. Native peoples gather it for carving, sale, or trade as part of their indigenous economy, and it is a focal point in many of our carved ivory earrings.
