Palekh is a tempera painting village with traditions rooted in old icon painting schools, which were persecuted during the revolution. Having preserved the ancient ways of painting with fairy-tales, Palekh is one of three tempera workshops still currently functioning.
This cute lacquer miniature shows us a young lad and a girl in the garden. A guy is giving to a girl a field flower. Painting is very much detailed and the gold details are amazing! Traditional black Lacquer outside with rich ornate gold borders, and red lacquer inside. The box is constructed from paper-mache. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene Includes a certificate form the Palekh workshop. Stands on four legs. 4.25"x2.5"x1.25".
