This box, painted in Mucha style, is a creation of Fedoskino artist Smirnova
Mucha style is known as the Art Nouveau style invented by Alphonse Mucha (1860 -1939), a Czech Art Nouveau painter and decorative artist. This style is characterized by twisting and swirling flower motifs. Mucha's works frequently featured beautiful young women surrounded by lush flowers which sometimes formed halos behind the women's heads.
The composition is surrounded by a gold line.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the left of the composition, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name. Miniature painted in the traditional manner on the Mother-of-pearl background.
